It is that time of year again. Charlie and I are packing up and heading to Cape Town for the holidays. We are both looking forward to spending the holidays on the beach, hiking, enjoying family and friends (and penguins too!). Our flight leaves super early in the morning, we will be flying via Atlanta to Jo'burg. It is such a long flight, but getting to see some of my closest friends and Charlie's family makes it all worth it. We have such grand plans of doing a couple of WOD's in the airport and maybe even on the airplane. We shall see how that goes.
Here are a few images from my birthday weekend in Prunedale, my mom and I took the kids down to see the horses...

The next time I post I will be on the other side of the globe. Hopefully this time all of my luggage will make it in one piece!

Kenzi turned 10 years old this year, it is hard to believe. In honor of her breaking into the double digits we went on a special portrait session, just for her. We had a wonderful time wondering around the park looking for light, climbing trees, looking at cows and playing a little hopscotch. Not a bad way to spend the afternoon. Happy Birthday Kenzi, you are growing into a beautiful young lady.

This is our early practice, we were trying for teenage angst. I think she got it dead on.

Thank you for a wonderful afternoon Darci, Kenzi (and Parker too!). If you want to see more images please go to their ONLINE GALLERY. Click on the access gallery link and use the access code: Kenzi

Kim Nicol is a massage therapist and willPower & Grace practitioner, basically she teaches you how to love your body. Who doesn't love a massage right? But what is willPower & Grace? In her words: It's a sweaty, barefoot, functional fitness class that will teach you to
move with integrity. You will improve your quality of movement in
every day life. Balance, strength, flexibility, range of motion,
agility. The more you use it, the more you have it. Kim was in need of a new head shot and wanted to grab a few shots for her website in the process. So, we met in San Francisco before she taught one of her willPower & Grace classes. We decided on a few shots outside before heading into the Lucy store where Kim was teaching a early morning class.

I have been wanting to start an 'Outtakes' file on facebook for a while, Phin solidified that for me. This shot a had me rolling. As it turns out, Phin is quite the multitask-er.

And the thing about portraits with two year-olds is well, they are two year-olds. You can't exactly ask a munchkin to go to the park surrounded with things to explore and play with and expect them to just sit and smile for a picture. So, you let them decide that they WANT to be in the picture. This shot we were trying the, 'mommy and daddy are going to take a picnic, don't you want to join them?' trick. As you can see, it didn't work out exactly as planned. I do love this shot though, especially mom and dad's expression in the background.

And finally, one of my favorites. The expression on Phin's face here is just priceless. I am pretty sure this is the point in the day when the cute little doggy passing by transformed into a vicious attack animal (or at least in Phin's eyes). Poor kiddo.

It has been almost two years since I first photographed Phin and his mom and dad (You should see his newborn blog HERE). Phin was just a little tyke, it is amazing to see how he has turned into a real miniature person. He is so funny, he is clearly the one in charge. Mom and Dad love him so much they can hardly stand it, and Phin knows it. This kid is surrounded with love, it shows in his smile.
