Welcome Hey there, thanks for stopping by! Welcome to my little corner of the internet, my place to share my voice and photography. In case you don't know me, I am Sara (that's me to the left, the one without a big white furry coat). I am a photographer based in the San Francisco Bay area, California. I LOVE my work, and you will see a bit of that sneaking in here. I also use this as a place to share other parts of my life. You will find adventures, food and little tidbits about my life with my darling husband and our two fat cats.  Please feel free to have a look around and even leave me a note. I would love to hear from you!

I have recently had several clients comment on my 'Signature Look'. It is so funny how that happens. It is not manufactured in any way, it is just what I like. When I go out looking for a location I am always on the hunt for natural beauty. I look for the way wild grasses sway and dance in the wind creating a almost painting like background for my images. I look for the way the light filters through the dust in the air creating an almost magical scene. This is what I look for and this is what I suppose has become my 'Signature Look'.  Kathleen and Jason's family portraits is a perfect example of what I look for, and as you can recall from the recent blog post, 'Samantha's Music', I absolutely loved this session. Kathleen and Jason's family where so much fun and utterly beautiful.

Don't forget to click on the slideshow at the bottom of this post to see even more images.

She is sweet, unassuming and unbelievably talented. We were doing a family portrait session, her step mom let me know that Samantha was leaving for University soon and she wanted some special images of her. After everyone else was done with the session I let them wonder about while Samantha and I had some extra time together. These images are the result. As the sun was setting I had Samantha walk into the field and play 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' on her violin. It was a beautiful moment, her inner and outer beauty took my breath away.

These portraits are exquisite Sara, you captured something this afternoon that Samantha's parents can savor for ever!

Sara Atkins:

Thank you so much! I do hope her parents cherish them, but even more I hope her grandchildren do one day.

Another great session with a family that I absolutely adore. When I first spoke with Jennine we decided on doing their portrait session at Lake Chabot. I had never shot there before but wanted to check out the location and see what it was like. When we got there I wasn't thrilled with the location. It was ok, but nothing to write home about.  This is the fun part of my job. I never know what I am going to get and when it doesn't look perfect, I love thinking on my feet and pushing my eye to find the best light and location possible. I suppose it is the thrill of the hunt.   In the end we found a beautiful field just outside of the park that turned out to be perfect. We tramped through the grasses and found 'The' spot. I was so happy with how the session turned out and getting to know the Powell's was such a joy. These two are so enamored with their little munchkin, it was contagious. So in the end, you bet I was gashing. Cute little biscuit.

Laughter, smiles, a little bit shy, easy to enjoy. Yup, those are all things Annelise. We met at the Berkeley Rose Garden for her very own portrait session to commemorate her seventh birthday. The plan was to continue onto Tilden park, but we had so much fun at the gardens that we didn't even get that far. I am pretty sure that we did in fact find the best smelling rose in that garden. I am not going to tell you which one it is though, that is our little secret.

Leslie, thank you so much for choosing me to document this very special milestone. I had so much fun getting to know both of you, it has been a joy to work with you!

A sneak peak from a recent maternity session with Rebecca and Daniel. I met these two lovely people when I first started going to Crossfit East Bay. They have now moved to New York and came back just for a short visit. I was lucky enough to get to steal them away and document the development of their little crossfit junkie to-be. Portrait sessions seem to be piling up on me, but I just had to get this image out!
