Welcome Hey there, thanks for stopping by! Welcome to my little corner of the internet, my place to share my voice and photography. In case you don't know me, I am Sara (that's me to the left, the one without a big white furry coat). I am a photographer based in the San Francisco Bay area, California. I LOVE my work, and you will see a bit of that sneaking in here. I also use this as a place to share other parts of my life. You will find adventures, food and little tidbits about my life with my darling husband and our two fat cats.  Please feel free to have a look around and even leave me a note. I would love to hear from you!

In my life there are basically three types of people. Family, friends and everyone else. Matty falls somewhere between these first two categories. When I was studying in South Africa and I decided I hadn't quite had enough of the place, this is the fella that politely asked his parents if he could bring home a stray student for a couple weeks. Well, those couple of weeks turned into a couple of months and... well yes I am that kind of 'guest'.

Staying with Matty and his family was pretty amazing and Matty became my little....eer... younger brother. We shared long chats over tea and danced in the kitchen. He could ALWAYS get a smile out of me.

One day, Matty fell in love. He sparkled when he spoke of this lovely lady, and when I met her I could see that they absolutely where a perfect match. Finally, after several years of begging Cath and Matty came to visit us in California. It was so much fun having them, the adventures that we went on where pretty epic (see the half dome hike). These are a few images I captured of the two of them while they where here. I am ready for them to come back again.

Everytime I am asked to do a shoot for Dandelion Magazine I get a little bit excited and a little bit nervous. I am excited because I know that the family that I will meet is going to be amazing and I always leave these shoots adoring the family and learning a lot in the process. However photographing a family with a special needs child does have it's challenges.

The Myers family was no exception. Jennifer and Shawn are amazing parents. So easygoing and fun to work with. Their son, Jack has autism and cerebral palsy ataxia. You can read the full article at GoDandelion.com.

Just with all of my portrait sessions I pretty much have to let the kids call the shots. There is no forcing a kid to look like they are having fun, you actually have to make it fun for them. Jack and Katie where no exception. Katie was easy, full of smiles and laughter. Jack was a bit more of a challenge, but we managed to get some great shots. Jennifer and Shawn where a huge part of getting those great shots, I gave gentle direction and followed their lead. I think it turned out great.

To the Myers family: Thank you so much for a fantastic portrait session. You have an beautiful story and I am so happy to have been able to document a little snippet of your life together.

Yes, I am officially so far behind in blogging that my darling couples maternity shoot has already resulted in a new little munchkin. But, hey at least I am blogging. I HAD to share these images, better late than never right?

This is Daniel and Rebecca. They are fellow cross-fitters (hence the kettle bell image) that have since up and moved to New York. This was actually one of the last times I saw them before they moved. These are just a few of my favorites from their session.

I miss you two! I hope you are loving New York, I can't wait to meet your little Elliot!

Tiffany and Brian and their little man Liam. I can't imagine their being a more sweet, down to earth family. It is very obvious that Tiffany and Brian absolutely ADORE Liam. And who wouldn't, have you seen those cheeks? See more of those cheeks below and be sure to check out their video as well. The access code to their online gallery is 'Strause'.

Rachel and Morgan invited me out to the Stanford Red Barn not too long ago to do a portrait session with their horses. I have done a couple of other portrait sessions with horses before (This is Bella, La Jolla Schooling Show, Willow Creek Horse Park) and I always love it. It is amazing to bring my two loves together: photography and horses. Now it is just a matter of doing it on a regular basis. I am thinking of starting to ride again, and as long as I have the Stanford facilities available to me it only makes sense. It helps that my darling friend Jana is helping to push me in the right direction.

Rachel and Morgan where awesome to work with, and the horses where amazing as well. As always, with these critters it is a challenge to get their ears pricked forward, but a little coaxing with some carrots did the trick!
