Welcome Hey there, thanks for stopping by! Welcome to my little corner of the internet, my place to share my voice and photography. In case you don't know me, I am Sara (that's me to the left, the one without a big white furry coat). I am a photographer based in the San Francisco Bay area, California. I LOVE my work, and you will see a bit of that sneaking in here. I also use this as a place to share other parts of my life. You will find adventures, food and little tidbits about my life with my darling husband and our two fat cats.  Please feel free to have a look around and even leave me a note. I would love to hear from you!

This is my friend Rich. Rich is also a photographer and probably one of the nicest ones I have met, and I have met a lot. He has such a huge heart and is a complete joy to be around. I had an opportunity to photograph this nice fella, and I even managed to find a nice smile (he promised that it was not possible). Thank you for sitting in front of my camera Rich, now you know how your clients feel!

I am pretty sure that I have the best husband in the world. He is brilliant, kind and honest. I could go on and on about all of the great things about my husband, but he is probably cringing as he reads this, so I will stop. One thing about my hubby (probably not unique to him) is that he HATES to be the center of attention. So you can imagine how difficult it might be to convince him to be the center of my attention and stand for my camera. It has taken about a year of every trick in the book to get Charlie in front of my camera. I tried asking nicely, I tried begging. I tried to guilt him into posing for me 'Just think of all the nice things I have done for you...' he didn't fall for it. Then one day he suddenly just agreed. I couldn't believe it. Maybe all of my begging and pleading finally wore him down. I don't really care what changed his mind, I am just glad he did. He is probably one of the easiest people I have ever photographed. Maybe I am just biased, but don't I have a handsome husband?

He was such a good subject, and very patient with me. It is a little bit strange to have my sweetheart suddenly in the 'client' role. I enjoyed getting a few great pictures of Charlie, it makes me wonder how long I will have to wait until I convince him it is time he let me do it again.

Charlie, thank you for finally agreeing to a portrait session. I know you can't stand it, so it is sweet of you to oblige me.  I miss you...

It is Friday morning, the last Friday morning that I will ever sit at my desk in this home writing about one of my photo sessions. It is kind of sad actually. But, at the same time, it is the end of one chapter and the start of a whole new adventure.

IMG_2220x.jpg
This is Kim. She is a little bit quiet, and a whole lot sweet. She has a heart that doesn't ever seem to stop giving, and her smile gives her away. Kim wanted to have a portrait session, so we decided to meet at St. Vincents to see what we could find. We took several shots there and then headed to China Camp to get a few more. We were lucky, we just missed the rain.

IMG_2201x.jpg
kimnhans.jpgHans decided to tag along for the shoot, so I had to get at least one shot of the two of them together. He was a great sport!

Thank you for a great session Kim! You are so sweet, and it shows in your photographs. Now... it is back to the world of corrugated cardboard and packing tape for me. Wish me luck!

She is shy. She is polite, but she is shy. It takes time to earn the trust of a twelve year old. You can't just expect to sit them down and tell them to smile and expect it to be genuine. To really get their personality to shine you have to involve them in the  process.

I ask her why she thinks her mom wants a portrait of her. What does she want to capture? She tells me it is because her mom wants to torture her. I tell her I totally get where she is coming from, but that I spoke to her mom and it was something quite different. You see, her mom doesn't have any pictures of herself when she was a little girl, and is unable to show her what she looked like when she was little. Her mom adores her little girl. In fact, this little girl reminds her so much of herself that she wanted to be able to hold onto these moments forever. Just as she is now. So when she is a mom and she takes her little girl for a portrait, she can show her these images and tell her all about why it is so important to capture the precious memories of youth.

And those are the images that she will show her own children one day and remember how much she loved their grandma.

It is February. How did that happen? It is as if I blinked and a month just flew right by. Well, it is a new month, and I missed the desktop freebie last month due to travel etc. So this months image is extra special.

IMG_0320.jpg

Photograph is a funny thing. Anyone can take a picture, cameras are readily available and pretty easy to use. The world is full of photographers. But there is a difference between taking a picture and making a picture. I pride myself in my ability to MAKE a picture. Every image that I produce should stand on its own. It should be beautifully composed and It should tell a story. This image does that, and that is what makes it special. I am a photographer, yes I am. But even more, I am a story teller.

What story do you think I am telling with this image? Leave a comment on the blog. The best story teller will receive a digital copy of this image for use on their desktop.

I think this pictures says 'There is beauty all around us. Be it in the contrast of colors and textures to the shades of old and new and the acquiscance of young and old. There is beauty all around us'.

well stated.

Ravi:

Hello Sara, this is Ravi from India. I am huge fan of your photographs; I never searched wallpapers for my desktop.
I always used your photograph for decorating my desktop. Please don’t worry I am not misusing your snaps for commercial purpose or neither I am selling those.
It’s just that I love your snaps, especially like these once.

I regularly check with your site and I like to read your stories and humors. Whenever I get the free time in office I only see your website.

I got to know about your photography from “Jayashree Patil”, you took JP and Jolies marriage snaps. From the day I saw those snaps I never ever missed a chance to see your website.

But you are doing the best…. I wish you could take my one snap  that at least I can put on FB and MySpace 

Take care Sara. You are my mascot, I also love to shoot photograph but seeing your comments on this snap I am kind of depressed that I am not having a single quality to make a picture  I just click the snaps 

Ravi, thank you so much for your kind words. I am flattered that you think so much of my work. Please let me know if there is anything that I can help you with as far as photography is concerned. I know what it is like to be learning and if there is anything I can do to help I would love it.
