Welcome Hey there, thanks for stopping by! Welcome to my little corner of the internet, my place to share my voice and photography. In case you don't know me, I am Sara (that's me to the left, the one without a big white furry coat). I am a photographer based in the San Francisco Bay area, California. I LOVE my work, and you will see a bit of that sneaking in here. I also use this as a place to share other parts of my life. You will find adventures, food and little tidbits about my life with my darling husband and our two fat cats.  Please feel free to have a look around and even leave me a note. I would love to hear from you!

To say that it has been an eventful weekend is a bit of an understatement. This last weekend I logged about 17 hours of driving. About 12 of those hours were with my brothers and my dad. Half of those hours were spent with my brothers 'celebrating' our tough mudder victory. Yes, it was a victory. We survived it despite, or maybe because of our funny shoes. It was an amazing weekend and spending it with the three men that I grew up with was pretty special. The days leading up to the event had me dreaming of the boys running off and leaving me behind. I made sure to emphasize the camaraderie clause of the tough mudder credo at the start of the challenge. Despite my initial worries, we did in fact stay together. It is a good thing too... I definitely would not have made it up those 12 foot walls without them! We worked together and pushed one another. We scurried over rocks, scampered over hills. We crawled through tunnels, under barbed wire and through mud. We jumped into giant tubs of ice. We crossed monkey bars, traversed on ropes and jumped off of platformes into freezing cold water. We ran 10 miles, half of those miles going practically straight up. And all of this at elevation. Was it the toughest race in the world, probably not. But it certainly was fun, and it left all of us walking like invalids in the end.

Charlie has been traveling to Canada every week for... way too long now. The poor fella has got to be sick of airports. Valentines day weekend we decided to give him a bit of a reprieve and I met him in Vancouver rather than him flying all the way home. It was a LOVELY weekend. Yes, by California standards it was cold. And rainy. But, we were together exploring a new city with no distractions. It was a fantastic.

The first evening I got in earlier than expected so we quickly checked into our hotel and then hurried off to explore the city. We love the architecture in Vancouver. The tall buildings with all of the glass looking over the water. It was beautiful. We wondered around, got out caffeine fix and eventually landed in Gastown. After drinks at the charming Six Acres we headed to dinner at Peckinpah BBQ kitchen-side. Our favorite seat in any restaurant is usually the seat that gives a good view of the kitchen. The Chefs in this Kitchen were particularly friendly and even shared little bits of the dishes they were serving.

The Next two days were full of exploring the Granville Island Public Market and the Aquarium. Both amazing and great ways to explore the area when it is raining outside.

A couple of weeks ago my family got together for a weekend in Napa. We had a wonderful breakfast at Matteo's house and then a limo picked us up. We spent the rest of the day winery hoping. What a wonderful Christmas present! Thank you so much for the day Matteo and Ravi, we enjoyed every minute.

Yesterday was an adventure in the city. Three ladies, a ton of flowers, a questionable foot massage and lunch in China Town.  Brides, this is for you: if you want orchids for your wedding, the San Francisco Wholesale Flower Market is the place to go. The flowers are super cheap and absolutely beautiful. Here is the catch: the flower market is open from 2am-10am to re-sellers only, after 10am flowers start selling to the public. Unfortunately though, since most of their sales go to re-sellers in the city the vendors at the market start shutting down pretty quickly. So, my suggestion is to get to the market a bit early, say 9:00. and have a nice breakfast at the Flower Market Cafe and as soon as 10:00 hits start looking for your flowers. There are of course more than Orchids at the market, but it is the orchids that seem to have the best prices.

Being sick on holiday is no fun at all. Fortunately being sick while riding a horse on the beach makes it a little more bearable. About half way through our trip (when I was almost recovered and Charlie was just starting to get sick) we headed to Sleepy Hollow to go for a ride at Noordhoek beach.

SaraAtkinsPhoto_101221_IMG_6711.jpg
Charlie taking it all in as he rides along the shore...maybe I will make a rider out of him yet! The slopes of Chapman's Peak rise to the right at the end of the sand. The peak in the distance is Karbonkelberg, west of Hout Bay.

See that smile on my face? This was pretty much the highlight of my trip. It is amazing to be back on a horse again... now if only I could figure out how to pack this sweet old horse into my luggage.

Thank you, it was a stunning day... hard to imagine now that I am back in the midst of winter!

Lisa:

Thank you so much, ausome photos and great captions. So glad that you had a great ride. Sorry for the winter. Still boiling hot here, but the South Easter wind has picked up and blowing a gale. Yesterday afternoon we could not do a trail as there was a fire at the Kommejtie end of the beach and the helicopters where flying over the beach to pick up water from the sea. Kind regards Lisa
