Self Portrait, originally uploaded by sara.atkins.
As a photographer I very rarely find myself within the viewfinder of the camera. While I love to capture the world around me, I would rather not be the subject of said captures. I this way I I am able to relate to some of my more timid clients. I do not mind so much if I am in control of the camera. You can see a collection of self portraits here, a little failed project of mine.
Where were you on New Years Eve?, originally uploaded by sara.atkins.
This is the photo I was working on in the the first image.
Sometimes I come across an image that brings on a touch of nostalgia. For me, this is one of those images. There is something about it that makes me stop for a moment.

The mountain hugs you in Cape Town. It is true. One can actually feel her embrace while walking through the gardens, climbing up her sides or sharing a drink with friends at her base. The mountain radiates and sense of ease, and wonder. She makes you feel at home. Being away from her for too long results in a steady pulling in her direction. She is pulling you back. The first sight of her after a long absence, its like re-visiting an old friend.

What is it about flying? When I am looking forward to the next adventure, the time between now and then (the time spent moving from place to place) is just as exciting to me as the destination itself. I actually enjoy the hustle an bustle of the airport. I enjoy the plethora of movies that I get to choose from. I enjoy having food brought right to me... and not having to do the dishes. I am space efficient, so being stuck in a little seat doesn't really bother me. I love the potential of meeting someone new. I may have nothing in common, but the single fact that we are traveling in the same direction results in a conversation. We meet, are great friends and then, just as quickly as my new friend came into my life... he or she is gone.
