Welcome Hey there, thanks for stopping by! Welcome to my little corner of the internet, my place to share my voice and photography. In case you don't know me, I am Sara (that's me to the left, the one without a big white furry coat). I am a photographer based in the San Francisco Bay area, California. I LOVE my work, and you will see a bit of that sneaking in here. I also use this as a place to share other parts of my life. You will find adventures, food and little tidbits about my life with my darling husband and our two fat cats.  Please feel free to have a look around and even leave me a note. I would love to hear from you!

The hands that feed you, originally uploaded by sara.atkins.

I recently had the opportunity to step inside the working kitchen at Carrie Dove Catering while doing a food shoot. I had a great time with the staff and even managed to get out of there without having to wash a single dish!

It was fun to get up close and see how the chefs do what they do... although it was a bit of a challenge to stay out of their way. Especially with all of the hot pots and pans to knock over.

The food that comes out of this kitchen is wonderful and the people are amazing. You can find out more about Carrie Dove Catering Here.

Chinatown, originally uploaded by sara.atkins.

Now... the second installment of my San Francisco series. Chinatown!! If you have never been to Chinatown in San Francisco, let me tell you, it is certainly an experience. Especially if you get out of the super touristy areas.  But as a warning, you do have to have a strong stomach for it.  Especially if you are going to venture into the 'live' market.

Unfortunately, photographs are not permitted at the live market.  However, the nice folks at the pharmacy had no problem at all allowing me to shoot to my hearts content.

Being the nosey person I am, I love looking through all of the jars and trying to guess what each of them contain.  Some were pretty obvious (like the almonds) and some things where so obscure I could only guess what they might be.

Black Tea, originally uploaded by sara.atkins.

One thing I did recognize was the tea.  Being a hug consumer of tea, I enjoyed seeing all of the variety that they had in stock.  Unfortunately I don't have a huge pantry or I would have tried them all!

Thank Goodness for Aspirine, originally uploaded by sara.atkins.

Well...all except for maybe this one.  This was a mixture of some goodies that is sure to cure one ailment or another.  I think I prefer to not know what goes into my medicine, thank you.

These lanterns are one of the distinguishing characteristics of Chinatown.  If the architecture, unfamiliar alphabet and all of the chinese folks walking around didn't tip you off... well then these lanterns would certainly let you know that you are in Chinatown.

Pacific Heights, originally uploaded by sara.atkins.

This weekend I had the opportunity to work with Tara Arrowood in San Francisco. These shots are the result of a whirl-wind of a day. I started in Pacific Heights, then to Chinatown, followed by North Beach.  When I was through with San Francisco I headed to Napa.

The architecture in San Francisco, and particularly in Pacific Heights is stunning.  It is fun to be a tourist in my own city. I get to take the time to really see the city.  It is something that I take for granted, and wish I could do more of.

This is what is known in South Africa as the Table cloth. I was hoping to get an image of the mountain in all her glory, but the weather had another idea.

We did however get a great view of the start of the Cape to Bahia Yacht race

It was pretty exciting watching as the yachts each made their way across the starting line. You can see the rest of this collection here.

WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) was a crazy event. I spent three days in sin city and was pretty much confined to the walls of the MGM Grand. To be honest, that was enough for me. In fact, it was almost too much for me. There were and incredible number of people, most with an SLR flung around their neck. Despite the volumes of people, and the neon lights (which I am not a huge fan) and the horrible smokey smell, it was a positive experience. The trade show was unbelievable. There were representatives there from every major vendor I had ever heard of and they were all there to show off their latest and greatest products. It was a bit overwhelming, but so much fun! The classes were inspiring and motivating. They really know how to make you want to work, and the worst part is I was stuck without access to any sort of Internet so I could not work!!! To make matters even worse, I returned home to find that my Internet was no longer working (thus the lack of blogging recently). I am back up and running now and will hopefully be able to get caught up with all of the work I have been missing!
