Welcome Hey there, thanks for stopping by! Welcome to my little corner of the internet, my place to share my voice and photography. In case you don't know me, I am Sara (that's me to the left, the one without a big white furry coat). I am a photographer based in the San Francisco Bay area, California. I LOVE my work, and you will see a bit of that sneaking in here. I also use this as a place to share other parts of my life. You will find adventures, food and little tidbits about my life with my darling husband and our two fat cats.  Please feel free to have a look around and even leave me a note. I would love to hear from you!

I am staying with my Uncle Bill for a couple of weeks before I head to South Africa. It has been fun spending time with him and I even got to tag along on his Monday Lunch at Brian's in Los Altos. These fellas have been having lunch together for years and years. In fact, they all used to work together at Lockheed. They are all engineers an all very clever. Marty (the one on the right) is the young guy in the group. He is a pilot just like Uncle Bill and they have fun sharing old flying stories. Mel (the one all the way on the left) still tutors at the high school in physics and calculus. He gives Uncle Bill some of the problems that he gives the kids to see if he can solve them. They are definitely keeping one another young.

And of course Uncle Bill can't help but to flirt with all of the waitresses. This is Pam, her and Uncle Bill have known each other for a very long time and as soon as he walked through the door she rushed over and gave hem a great big hug. It seems to be this way in most places I go to with Uncle Bill.

Fellas, thank you so much for letting me intrude on your lunch. It was great to hear all of your stories, discuss politics, and learn about your lives. I am so glad that you have one another.

Ahh... what way to start a week. There's nothing like seeing someone else routine and glimpsing into their life. Your Unlce Bill is a sweatheart. And I so glad that he has friends that share his enthusiasm for life.

Life is changing so quickly. We only have a week left in our little home now. It is less of a home at this point than a cardboard box maze. The boys are loving it, Frankie especially. He loves to find a cozy spot amongst the piles of boxes waiting to be filled. I am constantly worried that I will accidentally tape up a box with him in it. Who knew that packing could be so complicated?

To be honest though, I really do love moving. I find it cleansing, especially the part where I get rid of things. I suppose I enjoy it because we moved so much when I was young. Now that I am the adult and responsible for packing more than just my teddy bear, it does seem a bit more daunting. However, I do find joy in it. This morning for example I stumbled upon all of the ticket stubs and photographs I had saved from my very first trip to South Africa. The trip where I met and fell in love with my husband. I had so many good intentions of putting them into my little scrap book. One day they will make it there, but for now they are safely packed... right next to our sleeping fur ball.

We are so blessed to be surrounded by so much natural beauty here in California. And, I am sorry to say, I do not take advantage of it often enough. I get so caught up in work and photographing my clients that I hardly get time to just photograph for myself. This last week has been different. I have taken time for myself and have enjoyed time with friends, family and even manage to photograph for myself. What does that mean? I go on a long walk and enjoy what I find.

After my last Oakland animal shelter shoot Emily told me about some little birds that would like to have there photo's taken and I took full advantage of the opportunity for a nice walk and some fresh air. It is amazing what you can see when you just take the time.

Now for the little game. Do you see what I see? I promise you that it is there. It is kind of like where's Waldo on steroids? I promise you there is a burrowing owl in this picture. Do you see it? I will post the answer tomorrow...

I told you he was there! And this is him up close! Look at those eyes! Take this as a reminder to slow down and enjoy the world around you!

Bah! Cannot, can NOT find him! This is why I never made much of a birder... So glad you found one though, I wasn't sure if they'd be out in the morning. Beautiful shots!

Sara Atkins:

Hehe. Don't worry I will tell you tomorrow. The little bugger is hard to spot! Thank you for the heads up, it was so much fun being out there!

Cindy Yeung:

I can't find him either! I do love these photos...they are so pretty...you have inspired me to take walk outside. Perhaps at work tomorrow. =)

Shelly Waldman:

I think he's on the rock. To the left of the middle of the photo there's a black rock that sticks out into the water. Above and to the right of this rock is a grey/peach rock. In front of this rock is where the owl is located. -- Mind you that Jamison saw this and I'm the one who's having to describe it.

By the way, is the owl that you photographed up close... does it have one leg?

Sara Atkins:

Hehe. This is fun. Really good try Shelly, but no luck. He is a sneaky little critter! Cindy, I hope you enjoy your walk and take your camera!!!

We made it back from South Africa... minus a few selected items from our luggage. Apparently Charlie's watch and the perfume that he gave me for Christmas were just too nice to pass up. Oh, the joys of traveling. But we made it back and I suppose that is enough to be thankful for.

When we got back Uncle Bill picked us up from the Airport (that's right, 92 is not too old to drive!). We went back to his house to pick up the kids and when we walked in to the house we were greeted by a rather rotund Franklin. He was 14 pounds when we left him. Now he is topping the scales at 17 pounds. I think it might be time for a kitty diet. My mind is whirling with images of our not-so-little Frankie sweating away on a treadmill... not likely. I suppose it is time for a diet.

Uncle Bill:

Frankie is just like the rest of us, if there's food left in the bowl you just have to eat it -- and eatit Frankie did. Sorry Sara, I just gave them one level cup of food twice a day. I guess Frankie ended up eating too much of Linus's helping. Good luck, Frankie, on your treadmill regimine.

Charlie's Mom lost her cat last year. So, this year we decided it was time that she get some new friends. Gene, Charlie and myself went to the local animal shelter and picked out two little ones. She wanted a ginger kitten and, well the other one sort of picked us. The first picture was taken at the shelter. Charlie picked up this little tortoiseshell kitten and she crawled up onto his shoulders and started purrrrrring and grooming him. We were sold.

They have been home for a couple of weeks now and their personalities are blossoming. The tortie kitten is a little girl, Gene named her Sally. She is the more rambunctious of the two. A naughty little rascal but so so loving. The ginger is a boy, named Harry. Rightly so.

The kittens have brought the home to life with sounds of little paws scampering about. It will be crazy to see how much they have grown when we come back next year.
