The Happy Gardener, Photography by Sara Atkins Photography.
It has become a bit of a tradition that every time we go on a trip we first make a stop at Uncle Bill's house. There are three reasons for this and the first of which is to see our favorite Uncle Bill and have one of his famous lemon drinks while discussing what the upcoming trip will bring.

Uncle Bill is pretty much back to normal now after his surgery and you can see that his garden is going wild as a result.

The second reason for our little stops at Uncle Bill's place is to drop off the kids. Linus and Frankie have a second home with Uncle Bill and they always love their stays with him when we head off on an adventure.

This day was especially fun for the boys. There is nothing better than a mid-day hunt...

While chatting in the backyard we were visited by several Swainson's Hawks. It gave me a chance to hone my wildlife photography before our big trip to Costa Rica.

Frankie was pretty sure he had died and gone to heaven.

Uncle Bill loves having the kids, but he worries about them getting out of the yard.

The last time they stayed with him Linus went on a little adventure of his own. He went to the neighbors yard and Uncle Bill couldn't find him anywhere. He made little posters and posted them all over the neighborhood. I can just imagine Uncle Bill drawing little lost kitty posters. Poor guy thought he was going to have to find a Linus look-alike.

Another great thing about Uncle Bill's house is that you never know what you are going to find there. This time I found these great binoculars. Perfect for the trip! As it turned out, they did come in rather handy...

Dear Riley,
Happy
Birthday little man. One year ago today I rushed to the hospital to see
you born. You were in a hurry and I got there just in time for two last
pushes and then there you were here screaming your hello. I had
documented your journey here, your mom, dad and sister awaiting your
arrival. But on this day I got to take the first picture of you. Your
own little self, without the protection of your mama all around you.

Birth, Photography by Sara Atkins Photography.
You
arrived with that scrunched up little face and funny hair. You had the
first of many encounters with your sister and you were welcomed by your
family.

Now
that you are here, I could hardly imagine life without you. You are
only one year old, but you already have firm hold on my heart. Happy
birthday you sweet lil fella.
Love,
Auntie Sara
My Dad, Photography by Sara Atkins Photography.
This is my Dad, he turns 60 years old today. 60 is a pretty big milestone, and he has reached it with grace. I love this shot of him, his eyes are saying a lot. In fact they sum him up pretty well. As his daughter, I can give you a little hint:
Those eyes are saying, 'I will do anything for you. I will even sit here and let you take my picture even though I am not a huge fan of getting my picture taken. Because I love you.'
Thanks Dad, and Happy Birthday. I love you too.

Daily Walk, Photography by Sara Atkins Photography.
It has been a pretty great week. We have Shasta at our place now and we are starting to get into a bit of a routine. Every morning and evening we go for a walk and Shasta loves the dog park at point isabel.

This is Rita the great. She is a foster kid, gone wrong. Her mama just couldn't let her go.

Play time, Photography by Sara Atkins Photography.
The best part about the dog park is that there are some many dogs, all different shapes and sizes and they play until they drop. It is pretty entertaining, and it keeps the dogs happy.

This is probably one of the biggest dogs I have ever seen. She made Shasta look like a miniature. So sweet.

This week Shasta has started really playing. She is all legs though, she looks a bit like a baby deer when she plays.

Tail Wags and Whimpers from Shasta:
Wags:
- I Gained 5 lbs!
- I Stayed home alone for the first time and didn't destroy anything!
- We went to the vet and the vet said that I have already been fixed, no surgery!
- I have become the life of the party at the dog park
- The cats are starting to accept me
Whimpers:
- I stayed home alone for the second time and destroyed several things.
- The vet thinks I might have an infection in my uterus
- I still have really bad infections in both my ears
- The cats still think I'm funny looking

Shasta is doing great! She is gaining weight and starting to act like a puppy. We took her to the beach for the first time and she loved every minute.

Charlie and Shasta went for a long run down the beach. They are both so tall that they make pretty great running partners.

We are still unsure as to how we are going to make this work. I am going to look at a house with a yard today. We shall see...
