Welcome Hey there, thanks for stopping by! Welcome to my little corner of the internet, my place to share my voice and photography. In case you don't know me, I am Sara (that's me to the left, the one without a big white furry coat). I am a photographer based in the San Francisco Bay area, California. I LOVE my work, and you will see a bit of that sneaking in here. I also use this as a place to share other parts of my life. You will find adventures, food and little tidbits about my life with my darling husband and our two fat cats.  Please feel free to have a look around and even leave me a note. I would love to hear from you!

A couple weeks back I went on a little scouting adventure with my friend and sometimes second shooter, Shelly. We jumped in the golf and drove around the foothills just on the other side of Highway 280 looking for potential portrait locations. We picked the worst possible time to shoot (high noon) but managed to find a few great spots (and a horse!). It was great to catch up with Shelly and explore my new home base. I have to say, we are pretty lucky to be living on the peninsula. It is stunning here!

Shelly:

Wow, you really captured me and all my goofiness. It was fun exploring new places and catching up. I can't wait to see what we uncover next time.

It is funny the way life goes. When I was in high school I was a member of the surf club. I probably only surfed 3-4 times and stood up a handful of times. I enjoyed being in the ocean and with a good group of people. I haven't really surfed since then, until last weekend. My fella and I headed down to Santa Cruz and we joined a group of his fellow Stanford MBA's for a surf weekend. This time, I didn't just like it... I LOVED it. It was amazing. Yes, we happened to have one of the most beautiful days I have seen in Santa Cruz, and yes I managed to stand up more than my fair share. But the dolphins. Oh the dolphins. They were absolutely everywhere. We could see them swimming in the waves right along side of us. And the water was perfect and the people were so much fun. So... I guess you can say I am addicted. Am I a surfer, probably not. But I do like to surf and I would like to one day consider myself a surfer. So I suppose I need a bit more time at the beach, which is great because it is quickly becoming winter. How did that happen?

It is hard to believe it has been four years. Actually, come to think of it...not really. I mean, it feels like it hasn't been that long, which I suppose is a good thing. But when I think of all of the things that we have experienced together it is hard to believe that we fit it all in just four years. It is not the wedding four years ago that matters (although it was a pretty amazing day) it is everything that has happened since then. Among other things, that fella of mine has supported and encouraged me through the start up and development of my business. He is the one that told me to jump in head first. He gave me the strength and courage to turn my passion into a career.

In the last four years we have traveled together, more than I could have hoped for. We are so fortunate to have had the chance to see the world hand in hand. We have learned to cook, feeding one another our latest culinary feats. Thankfully neither of us has burned down the kitchen though we have had a few close calls. We have survived broken bones,  concussions and more trips to the emergency room than I care to remember.  We have skied, rock-climbed, cycled, hiked, swam, dove, danced, kayaked, zip-lined, cross-fitted, cruised, drove, walked, snorkeled, horse-backed (yes that is a word) around the world. We have laughed a lot and cried a little.

In the last four years we have also learned that marriage isn't always easy. Marriage is hard work, but it is worth it. Marriage means always having someone to lean on. It means knowing that there will always be someone to bring you tea in bed. It means having someone to watch movies with when you both know you should probably be working. It means having someone to explore life with, someone to get lost with.

Charlie, thank you for four years. Four years of making me tea and letting me steal the covers. Four years of hiking when you would rather be reading. Four years of waiting for me to get the perfect shot.

I have been a little distant from the blog front lately. To be honest, I have had so much on my plate that blogging slipped has lower and lower on my to-do list. The thing is, I LOVE blogging. For the past several years it has been a great outlet. I love sitting down first thing and putting a few thoughts down. It is a nice time to evaluate what is going on in my life and my business. So, after my short hiatus, I am back. Here are a few things that you may have missed...

1. We are moving! Our house is in shambles as we are getting ready to move down to Palo Alto. The fella is starting the MBA program at Stanford in the fall, and we have finally found a place to live for the next two years. We are looking forward to the move and can't wait to meet Charlie's fellow class mates. I will probably be offline there for a couple of days as we try to sort out the internet situation, but hope to get up and running as soon as possible.

2. Travel. Travel. Travel. We have been on the move as usual. Photos from our little trips will probably be finding their way onto the blog once I get settled into a routine after the move. In the last three months alone we have been exploring Hawaii, Yosemite, San Diego, Norway and Sweden. It has been fun and I am looking forward to finally looking through the images I have collected and creating an album.

3. I have been busy as ever with wedding and portrait clients and am dying to get their images up. I have had a great year so far and have been loving meeting so many new beautiful families. They will definitely be sneaking into the blog posts as well.

What about you? Is there anything that you would be interested in hearing about? Photography or otherwise?

One Year Ago: Stellenbosch: The Sustainability Institute

Charlie's (51).jpg
I took this image six years ago. I was working in a lab at UC Davis and my fella was here for a few precious months working in Tahoe and exploring California with me. Every Weekend I would drive up to Tahoe and pick him up and we would find an adventure together.  This particular weekend we went to Stanford. We rode bikes around the campus, looking at the tennis courts, the beautiful old buildings and enjoying a picnic in the grass.

Fast forward 6 years and here we are, back at Stanford. This time we are married, there is no looming threat of departure. This time we are looking at buildings, but it is not in interest of their history or architecture, it is to see if we would be happy living in them. Again we were eating, but this time it was not just the two of us. This time we sat in rooms filled with other excited new admits, discussing possibilities and exploring potentials.
