We
flew out of San Francisco on Friday evening. It was probably the worst flight I
have ever had. I managed to get sick and we forgot to pack the medicine in the carry on luggage. So, I spent most of
the flight with a raging headache, fever and intermittent trips to the bathroom
to spend some time dry heaving (sorry if that is too much information). Not a great way to start a vacation, but I
figure I got all of the bad stuff out of the way, so the rest of our trip
should be amazing. Our connecting flight from Zurich, Switzerland to Venice,
Italy was quite a bit better. I got a window seat and as we flew over the
craggy Swiss Alps I finally felt like I was on vacation. It was stunning to
look out the window and see the clouds dancing along the tops of the snow
covered mountains. Please remind me to go back to Switzerland sometime.
We arrived to the house to find an Italian, Californian and South African flag greeting us.
When we arrived at the airport in Venice our family friends Davide and Mariangela and their oldest boy, Lorenzo were there to pick us up. It was so nice to see their smiling faces. They brought us home and we had a wonderful meal together and finished off the night by exchanging gifts and playing games with their three beautiful boys Lorenzo, Marco and Francesco
Morning time with Marco. Mr. Sleepy eyes. Charlie better watch out, he has some competition!
We spent our first day with Mariangela and Francesco biking around Chioggia (an island just south west of Venice). It was a beautiful day and a relaxing way to get acclimatized.
This is the view of Chioggia as you ride your bike from Soto Marina. Bella!
Charlie on his new ride.
Our first stop (after coffee of course) was the fish market. The fish in the market were so fresh, most of them still living. The snails were not giving up on freedom!

Bike riding and exploring the sites requires some relaxation. We stopped for a spritz and Davide joined us on his luch break.
While we waited for Davide and Charlie to work out logistics with Charlie's visa Mariangela and I waited outside with Francesco. Francesco is a complete Mama's boy, and a miniature Davide.
The start to a perfect trip! Tomorrow: Venezia!
I can't wait to get back to Italy. It's almost like being homesick. Give the Boscolos a big hug for me!
(06.09.10)That flight must have been tortuous for you, Sara. Glad it was just a temporary sickness. Gorgeous pictures! You and Charlie make a beautiful couple.
(06.09.10)Can't wait. My family looks wonderful, great pictures.
(06.09.10)We can't wait for you to join us!
(06.11.10)The flight was definitely not fun! And I am slowly getting over the sickness, hopefully I will be back to new soon!
