What is a Senior Rep?

They are spokesmodels that help promote Sara Atkins Photography with their own amazing portraits.  You're going to tell your friends about how incredible you experience was anyway, so why not earn some credits towards photos while you're at it?  An ideal senior rep has lots of friends and is a very outgoing and energetic person.  I need reps who are going to create a buzz and who are going to have lots of friends to tell about it!  Please only submit emails if you are serious about this.

What do Rep Models Do?

I am not asking you to be a sales person...your photos are going to sell themselves.  I am asking you to simply tell all of your friends about Sara Atkins Photography and show off your pictures, create a buzz about your photography.  It's simple really.  The more friends you get to come get their senior portraits with me, the more free stuff you'll get.  I also have great incentives for the people you refer, so it's a win-win.

What do I receive for being a Rep Model?

- Complimentary on-location photo shoot ($200 value).  The session will last up to 2 hours, so you truly get to feel like a super model for the day.

-10 web resolution images to use on your facebook page.

-50 senior rep model cards with your images on them. (This is what you'll hand out to all of your friends to get them to come get their senior portraits done.)

-$30.00 print credit for every senior you refer who books a session with Sara Atkins Photography.  There is no limit on how much you can earn, most senior reps will get an entire senior package for free from referring people.

One Year Ago: This is Rich

SaraAtkinsPhoto_110309_IMG_6773.jpg
For winter's rains and ruins are over,
And all the season of snows and sins;
The days dividing lover and lover,
The light that loses, the night that wins;
And time remembered is grief forgotten,
And frosts are slain and flowers begotten,
And in green underwood and cover
Blossom by blossom the spring begins.
-A.C. Swineburne

And just because it has been a while since Mr. Linus has said hello...

This is by far one of our favorite Saturday morning breakfasts. Love love love. Over a year ago upon finding out that gluten was a big no-no for me I shed a little tear for the loss of pancakes. The funny thing  is that my favorite pancakes were the ones I made with banana mashed up into the batter. I was thrilled when I realized that I could still have my pancakes and not have the tummy problems. I just needed a little ingredient adjustment.

Ingredients (serves two):
3 Old bananas mashed up
3 Heaped spoons of almond butter
4 eggs
Add-in of choice (we used blueberries for this one)
A splash of vanilla
A pinch of salt
A sprinkle of cinnamon

How ever much bacon you would like, we usually have 5 pieces between the two of us.

Add in options:
Berries
Nuts
Chocolate chips

Method:

Note: I usually Keep a freezer bag in the freezer full of over-ripe bananas. Whenever we have a banana that has gone a little to long for eating fresh, I peel it and stick it in the freezer bag. This way I always have those super sweet bananas ready to bake with. Whenever I am ready to use them I pop them in the microwave and they are ready to go.

Mix all the ingredients (except bacon and blueberries) in a bowl until the batter has a fairly smooth consistency. fold in the blueberries. Heat up your skillet and cook your bacon, You will be using the grease from the bacon to cook your pancakes. Put a platter in a oven on low with a paper towel on one side to soak up the bacon grease as the bacon sits. When the bacon is done cooking put it on the paper towel.  Now you are ready to cook your pancakes.

Pour off any excess oil (save for later use). Put your skillet on medium (may vary on your stove). Pour about half a ladle full of batter on the skillet. The key is to not make the pancakes too big or they will be hard to flip. When your pancake has little air holes in the top it is ready to flip. Cook the other side until lightly browned, about 2 minutes. When it is done, put it in the oven to keep warm while you make the rest of your pancakes.

Serve pancakes with bacon. Enjoy!

One Year Ago: A slow walk with Uncle Bill

Really, this is just a ploy to get you to tell me about your guilty pleasures. I will go first...

IMG_2629.jpg

1. Grey's Anatomy.

One of the things that I love about my little home is that we don't have a TV. I know, blasphemy. We haven't had one for years now, that is the way we like it. I do have a computer though (obviously) and one of my biggest guilty pleasures is Grey's Anatomy. Yes, it is trash. I know I know, don't judge.

2. Paleo fudge.

This is a good one. When I am in need of something sweet this is one of my weaknesses.

1-2 Tablespoons Almond Butter
1-2 Teaspoons Honey
1-2 Tablespoons Coco Powder
A pinch of salt

3. Not waking to an alarm

One of the joys to working at home!

4. Working in my pajamas

This does not happen very often, when it does I feel like I am playing hookie.

5. Post Secret

What is it about reading others deepest, darkest secrets? I can't help it. www.postsecret.com

6. Driving with the windows open, radio blaring singing along.

I am told it is not green to drive with your windows open. Sometimes though, it just has to be done.

7. Country Music

This is a remnant of my cowgirl past. Sometimes an old country song hits the spot. Again, don't judge.

8. Cream Top Milk.

I don't have much dairy in my diet. However, one of my favorites is when we get that beautiful glass jar of whole milk from Strauss Family Creamery. If I am the first to the bottle I love scooping the cream off of the top of the milk and savoring every last creamy bit.

9. Pedicures

Yes, I could probably paint my toes myself. But every once in a while, there is nothing better that getting pampered.

10. In-and-out burger french-fries.

This is a bad one. I almost never eat at fast food places. The only one I have eaten at in the last four years actually is In-and-Out burger. My favorite part is their fries. The fact that I can stand there and watch them cut the whole potato right in front of me makes me think that they are far superior to what you might get at any other fast food place. Reality: probably not.

OK, I fessed up. What are your guilty pleasures? Don't leave me hanging here.

This is a question that I get a lot. The way I think of it, photographing children is a lot like photographing monkeys. They are super cute, so most anything you get is going to be great. They are also super fast. Kids just want to go go go. There are a few things that you can do to make your shots of your kids even better.

1. Kids are fast

Unless they are not crawling yet, kiddos are on the move. Trying to keep up with them is hard enough; trying to do so with camera in hand is quite a feat. How many times have you taken a photograph and ended up with a blurry photo? Well, the reason is that your munchkin probably moved while the film was being exposed causing the blur. Sometimes this is ok, sometimes the blur is a good way to show motion, but it is all about control. You want to be able to control the end product. So, I am sorry to say it folks: you are going to have to take that camera out of auto mode. If you want to make sure to stop motion you are going to need a shutter speed that is faster than your kiddo. Fast shutter-speed = stop motion.

2. Minimize distractions

With kids comes stuff. Diapers, bottles, toys and the list goes on. While it might be cute to have a favorite toy, having all of the other stuff in the background can be distracting. If the subject of your photo is your cute kiddo, get rid of all the other stuff that might be a distraction. If you can't get rid of the background stuff, try to throw it out of focus. How do you do that? Once again, you are going to leave that safety zone and take your camera off of that auto setting. You are going to put the aperture (size of the opening of the shutter) to the smallest possible number. Think: small number = blurry background

3. Focus on the eyes

The eyes are the windows to the soul right? Don't let your camera decide what to focus on for you, take control! Most cameras have a way to lock the focus. Lear how to do this on your camera. When you are taking a picture, focus on your subjects eyes, lock the focus and recompose as you would like.

4. Change your perspective

Way too often I see photos of children taken from above. After all, kids are short. While this can be a fun perspective from time to time, I would recommend getting down on their level whenever possible.

5. Let them guide you

Get photos of them doing things that they like to do. Capture what is unique about them. If they love the outdoors, take them out exploring. If they love to read, capture them with books, take them to the library or figure out a fun way to use books as a prop. The possibilities are endless to make their personalities shine.

Let me know if this was helpful to you and if you have any other questions. Happy Friday!
